Thursday Book Review: Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Jamie Ford

March 4, 2010

Oh. My.

I loooved this book!

Jamie Ford’s Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet is a beautiful, old-fashioned love story.  But it’s also the story of fathers and sons, friendship, and the strength of the human heart.  It’s the story of Henry, a young Chinese boy, who falls in love with Keiko, a young Japanese girl.  It’s set in the ethnic neighborhoods of Seattle and in Japanese internment camps during WWII, and it sheds light on what it was like to live through that period of American history.  Above all, it’s a story of understanding, sacrifice and love.

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet definitely found a place in my heart.  I know I will be thinking about Henry, Keiko, Sheldon and the others for a long time to come.

I highly recommend this beautiful and tender book.

Happy Reading!

XO,

Vicki

PS  A big thank you to Lovely Little Things  (here) for the book suggestion!
