Congratulations, Green Bay Packers

February 7, 2011

Every single person I love in Wisconsin is happyestatic, out of their minds today.

Every. Single. Person.

There will not be one unhappy person in the state of Wisconsin today.

The Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburg Steelers and the Lombardi trophy is on its way home.  The entire state is celebrating.

And the truth is,  I couldn’t be happier for all my favorite cheeseheads.

John, the kids, and I watched the game at Karen and Dan’s house, along with a bunch of their other crazy Packer friends.   Needless-to-say, we were the only Bears fans there.  The amount of green and gold on display was pretty overwhelming.  There was green and gold bread (so good!) and green and gold chocolate crispy treats (yummy!) and the kids were all decked out with little Packer facial tattoos.  As a diehard Bears fan, and a Pittsburg Steeler-hater, I didn’t really have a team to root for, but that didn’t take away from the fun.  The best part of last night was watching Karen and her friends watch the game: they cheered like crazy people, groaned over dropped passes and shouted coaching tips like it would help.

For those of you who are not from around these parts, let me tell you, Green Bay Packer fans have to be some of the most intense, loyal, supportive and passionate fans in the world.  Green Bay Packer fans love their team.  They love, love, love their team.  They live and breathe green and gold.  Everywhere you look up here it’s PACKERS, PACKERS, PACKERS.  They wear green and gold like it actually looks good together.  They buy green and gold cars.  They decorate their houses in green and gold–entire rooms of green and gold!  Heck, they wear styrofoam blocks of cheese on their heads.  In public.  With pride.

Yup.  The Green Bay Packer love is pretty intense up here, and all of my favorite people up here are Packer fans.  So while I can’t really bask in any of the happiness of the Green Bay Packer win, I can be happy for all my Green Bay Packer friends.

I am happy for you guys.  Really.  But mostly, I’m happy that Karen and I didn’t make another stupid bet on the outcome of this game.  : )

Congratulations, Packer friends!  Your team played well and won it the hard way. And they did it with nothing but class.

XO,

Vicki
